Product Summary

Gatexim-CV 200 is a combination antibiotic medication marketed by Healthgate. It combines a potent third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic (Cefixime) with a beta-lactamase inhibitor (Clavulanic Acid). Cefixime acts by preventing bacterial cell wall synthesis, thereby killing the bacteria. Clavulanic Acid works by blocking the action of beta-lactamase, an enzyme produced by some bacteria to resist antibiotics, making this combination effective against even certain resistant strains of bacteria. It is used to treat varied, moderate-to-severe bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, and ears.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Enhanced Efficacy: The inclusion of Clavulanic Acid helps overcome bacterial resistance, increasing the range of bacteria the antibiotic can treat.

  • Potent Formula: The combination provides strong therapeutic levels for managing acute and difficult-to-treat bacterial infections.

  • Broad-Spectrum Coverage: Targets a diverse range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Cons

  • Digestive Side Effects: Common adverse reactions may include diarrhea, nausea, or stomach pain, sometimes slightly more pronounced than with cefixime alone.

  • Risk of Resistance: Overuse or misuse can still contribute to the development of drug-resistant bacteria.

  • Infection Type Specificity: It is ineffective against viral infections like the common cold or flu.

How to Use

  • Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew it.

  • Timing: Cefixime is generally best absorbed when taken on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal). However, follow your doctor’s specific timing advice.

  • Course Completion: It is essential to finish the entire prescribed course of treatment, even if symptoms disappear. Stopping early can allow surviving bacteria to multiply and cause a relapse.

  • Storage: Store protected from moisture at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.

Warning: This is a Schedule H Prescription Drug and must be used strictly under the guidance and prescription of a Registered Medical Practitioner.
