Duolizer Capsules by Healthgate are a prescription combination medication intended for oral inhalation. They are used for the maintenance and relief of symptoms associated with reversible obstructive airway diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. This dual-action therapy combines two different types of bronchodilators to provide more effective relief from bronchospasm (narrowing of the airways) than either medication used alone.
The packaging indicates that each capsule contains a dry powder for inhalation with the following active ingredients:
Levosalbutamol Sulphate: A short-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (SABA).
Ipratropium Bromide: An anticholinergic bronchodilator.
Quantity: 30 Capsules per pack.
The exact dosage strength of each ingredient is not fully visible on the main face of the packaging in this image.
Duolizer Capsules are a prescription-only inhalation treatment containing a fixed-dose combination of levosalbutamol and ipratropium. It is used as a bronchodilator to relax the muscles in the airways and improve breathing. It is often prescribed for patients who require more than one bronchodilator to control their symptoms of asthma or COPD. This product should be used regularly as directed by a doctor and is not meant for the immediate relief of acute, severe attacks.
| Pros | Cons |
| Synergistic Effect: Combines two different classes of medicines that work together to open the airways more effectively than single agents. | Not for Sudden Attacks: It is primarily a maintenance medication and should not be used as the sole treatment for acute, life-threatening asthma or COPD attacks. |
| Convenient Dosing: Delivers both medications in a single inhalation, which can simplify the treatment regimen. | Side Effects: May cause side effects such as headache, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, or throat irritation. |
| Improved Breathing: Designed to provide sustained relief from breathlessness, wheezing, and chest tightness. | Requires a DPI Device: The capsules cannot be swallowed and require a compatible Dry Powder Inhaler (DPI) device (not pictured) for proper administration. |
WARNING: DO NOT SWALLOW THESE CAPSULES. This medication must be used ONLY with a dry powder inhaler device.
Prepare the DPI Device: Ensure you have the compatible dry powder inhaler device recommended by your healthcare provider. Open the inhaler according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Load the Capsule: Just before use, remove one Duolizer capsule from the blister pack. Place it into the capsule chamber of the inhaler. Puncture the capsule as per the device instructions.
Breathe Out: Breathe out as fully as possible. Do not breathe out into the inhaler device.
Inhale: Hold the inhaler horizontally. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth and seal your lips tightly around it. Take a single, quick, and deep breath in through your mouth to inhale the powder from the capsule.
Hold Your Breath: Remove the inhaler from your mouth and hold your breath for approximately 5-10 seconds, or for as long as is comfortable.
Confirm Inhalation: Open the device to check the capsule. If there is still powder inside, repeat the inhalation process from step 3. Once empty, discard the capsule shell.
Post-Inhalation Care: Close the device and store it in a cool, dry place. Rinsing your mouth with water after each use is often recommended to reduce side effects like dry mouth or throat irritation. Do not swallow the water.
