This product, marketed by Healthgate, contains a combination of two antibiotic medicines. It is presented in a white and orange cardboard box with a 10×10 tablet blister pack strip. Each tablet is a fixed-dose combination.
This medication contains two active ingredients:
Amoxycillin (500 mg): A penicillin-type antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Potassium Clavulanate (125 mg): A beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents bacteria from destroying amoxycillin, thereby enhancing its effectiveness.
The “625 mg” strength indicated on the packaging is the combined total of these two active ingredients (500mg + 125mg).
Moxgate CV 625 is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. By combining Amoxycillin with Potassium Clavulanate, it is effective against a wider range of bacteria, including those that have developed resistance to amoxycillin alone. It is commonly prescribed for infections of the lungs (pneumonia), ears, nose, sinuses, skin, and urinary tract. It is important to note that this medicine only treats bacterial infections and will not work for viral infections like the common cold or flu.
Effective Against Resistant Bacteria: The clavulanate component overcomes bacterial resistance, making the antibiotic treatment more powerful.
Broad Spectrum of Activity: Treats a wide variety of bacterial infections in different body parts.
Proven Formulation: Amoxycillin/Clavulanate potassium is a well-established and widely used antibiotic combination.
Common Side Effects: Frequently causes digestive issues such as diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain. Diarrhoea can sometimes be severe (Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhoea).
Risk of Allergic Reactions: As with any penicillin antibiotic, there is a risk of serious allergic reactions.
Does Not Treat Viruses: Ineffective for illnesses caused by viruses. Using antibiotics unnecessarily can lead to future antibiotic resistance.
Contraindications: Not suitable for individuals with a known history of severe allergy to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics, or those with past liver problems associated with this specific combination.
This medication is available by prescription only. It must be taken under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Below is a general guide.
Follow Doctor’s Orders: Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change your dose or treatment duration.
Take with a Meal: It is best taken with food or a meal. This helps to reduce the risk of stomach upset and enhances the absorption of the medicine.
Complete the Full Course: You must finish the entire amount of medication prescribed, even if you begin to feel better after a few days. Stopping an antibiotic too early can allow bacteria to survive, potentially leading to a relapse and promoting antibiotic resistance.
Frequency and Dosage: Tablets are typically taken 2-3 times a day, as directed. Your doctor will determine the correct dose based on your age, weight, medical condition, and the severity of the infection.
Swallow Whole: Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew it.
Inform Your Doctor: Tell your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially liver or kidney disease, and any history of antibiotic allergies before starting treatment. Inform them if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Seek Medical Help: Contact your doctor if you experience persistent or severe side effects, such as severe diarrhoea, severe rash, or yellowing of the skin/eyes.
