Mistovate-F 250 by Healthgate is a prescription combination inhaler device. It is a pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) that combines an inhaled corticosteroid to reduce airway swelling with a long-acting bronchodilator to relax airway muscles. This dual-action therapy is used for the long-term, daily maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to control symptoms and improve breathing. It delivers a consistent, measured dose with each puff.
This pressurized metered-dose inhaler delivers:
Fluticasone Propionate (IP): 250 mcg (micrograms) – a powerful anti-inflammatory steroid.
Formoterol Fumarate (as the Dihydrate) (IP): A potent, long-acting bronchodilator.
Doses: Contains 120 Metered Doses (120 puffs).
Mistovate-F 250 is a combined inhaler used for the preventative, maintenance treatment of chronic asthma or COPD. It is designed to control underlying inflammation and maintain open airways on a day-to-day basis. It is not intended to treat a sudden asthma attack. Regular twice-daily use is typical to prevent symptoms, with the dosage determined by a doctor.
| Pros | Cons |
| Combined Therapy: Uses two essential medicines in one device, potentially improving adherence to the treatment plan. | Requires Proper Technique: Incorrect use can significantly reduce the amount of medication reaching the lungs, leading to ineffective treatment. |
| Maintenance Control: Effectively targets underlying causes of chronic breathing issues, helping to prevent exacerbations. | Not for Acute Symptoms: It is a maintenance medicine only and will not provide immediate relief during a sudden attack. Patients must have a separate fast-acting rescue inhaler. |
| Controlled Dosing: The metered device ensures a consistent, accurate dose with each actuation. | Risk of Side Effects: Common side effects include throat irritation, hoarseness, cough, headache, tachycardia (racing heartbeat), or tremors. Inhaled steroids can also increase the risk of oral thrush. |
Do not skip doses; use this inhaler exactly as your doctor prescribed.
Basic steps for using a pressurized metered-dose inhaler:
Prepare: Wash your hands. Remove the cap from the mouthpiece and check for dust or lint. Shake the inhaler well (5-10 seconds) before use.
Test Spray (If necessary): If the inhaler is new or has not been used for several days, release one or two test sprays into the air.
Position: Stand up straight or sit upright.
Breathe Out: Breathe out as completely as possible. Do not breathe out into the inhaler device.
Seal lips and Inhale: Place the mouthpiece in your mouth between your teeth and close your lips tightly around it. Do not bite the mouthpiece. Start breathing in slowly and deeply through your mouth. Immediately after you begin to breathe in, press down firmly once on the top of the canister.
Hold Your Breath: Continue breathing in slowly until your lungs are full. Remove the inhaler from your mouth. Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, or for as long as is comfortable.
Exhale and Rinse: Breathe out slowly. Replace the cap. After your required dose, rinsing your mouth thoroughly with water and spitting it out is essential to help prevent throat irritation and oral thrush. Do not swallow the water.
Repeat (if prescribed): If your doctor prescribed more than one puff, wait about 1 minute before repeating steps 3 through 6. Shake the inhaler again before the next puff.
