Product Description

Getpred 40 from Healthgate is a prescription injectable corticosteroid medication. It is supplied as a sterile, lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder containing methylprednisolone sodium succinate for injection. This powerful anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive drug must be reconstituted with the provided sterile diluent immediately before administration by a healthcare professional. It is indicated for the acute management of various serious inflammatory, allergic, and autoimmune conditions when oral dosing is not possible or an intense, immediate effect is required. It is for intramuscular (I.M.) or intravenous (I.V.) use only.

Product Composition

This single-dose blister pack contains:

  • One Vial of Lyophilized Powder: Totaling 40 mg of Methylprednisolone (as Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate USP).

  • One Ampoule of Sterile Diluent: Contains 1ml of sterile Water for Injection for reconstitution.

Summary

Getpred 40 is a high-potency, fast-acting injectable corticosteroid for the treatment of acute, severe, or life-threatening inflammatory conditions. It contains 40 mg of methylprednisolone sodium succinate and must be prepared and administered by a qualified healthcare provider via I.M. or I.V. routes.

Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Rapid Action: Provides powerful anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects faster than oral steroids, crucial for acute emergencies. Requires Professional Administration: It must be prepared and administered by a doctor or nurse using strict sterile technique, as it is not for self-administration.
I.M./I.V. Versatility: Can be administered either intramuscularly for sustained release or intravenously for immediate, peak effect. Requires Reconstitution: The powder must be properly mixed with the specific diluent immediately before use. Any leftover solution must be discarded.
Controlled Dosing: The 40 mg single-dose vial provides precise, tailorable delivery in a clinical setting. Side Effects: Potential for common corticosteroid side effects, including upset stomach, increased appetite, and insomnia. Long-term use can lead to more serious systemic issues like weight gain, high blood pressure, fluid retention, or increased risk of infection.
Alternative to Oral Route: A vital treatment option for patients who cannot swallow or tolerate oral medications.

How to Use

WARNING: FOR INTRAMUSCULAR (I.M.) OR INTRAVENOUS (I.V.) USE ONLY. DO NOT INFUSE ORALLY.

This product is for single-dose administration by a qualified healthcare professional only. Do not self-administer.

  1. Preparation (Reconstitution): Under strict sterile conditions, a healthcare professional will slowly inject the entire contents of the sterile solvent ampoule (1ml) into the lyophilized powder vial. Swirl gently until the powder is completely dissolved; do not shake vigorously.

  2. Inspection: The reconstituted solution should be clear. It must be visually inspected for particulate matter and discoloration before use. It should not be used if it is discolored or contains any particles.

  3. Administration:

    • Intramuscular (I.M.): The final solution can be injected deeply into a large muscle mass (like the gluteus or vastus lateralis).

    • Intravenous (I.V.): The reconstituted solution can be administered directly into a vein as a slow I.V. injection (over 3 to 5 minutes) or diluted further with compatible fluids (like 0.9% sodium chloride) for I.V. infusion.

  4. Use Immediately: The reconstituted solution should be used immediately after preparation. Any unused portion must be discarded.
