Description

Glycogate FB is a triple-combination prescription medication from Healthgate, presented as capsules for oral inhalation. It is formulated as a dry powder to provide comprehensive, long-term maintenance treatment for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is not intended as a rescue inhaler for sudden breathing problems.

Product Composition:

This fixed-dose combination contains three active ingredients:

  • Glycopyrronium: 25 mcg

  • Formoterol Fumarate: 12 mcg

  • Budesonide: 400 mcg

  • Quantity: 30 Capsules

Summary:

Glycogate FB works by combining an anti-inflammatory steroid with two different types of bronchodilators to open airways and reduce lung inflammation. This triple action is intended for regular use to provide continuous, day-to-day symptom control for COPD.

Pros:

  • Triple Therapy in One: Provides three complimentary treatments in a single inhalation, maximizing convenience and potentially improving patient adherence to the treatment plan.

  • Comprehensive Symptom Control: Intended for more effective lung function improvement and symptom reduction than dual or mono-therapies in moderate-to-severe COPD.

  • Simplified Treatment: Reduces the need to coordinate use of multiple different inhalers.

Cons:

  • Requires an Inhaler: The capsules cannot be swallowed. They must be used with a compatible dry powder inhaler device (not pictured), which is often sold separately.

  • Dosing Technique Dependent: Effective drug delivery relies heavily on proper inhalation technique.

  • Side Effects: Potential side effects include throat irritation, hoarseness, headache, muscle cramps, heart palpitations, dry mouth, or a risk of oral thrush.

  • Not a Rescue Inhaler: This is a maintenance medicine only and must not be used for sudden attacks. A separate rescue inhaler is always needed.

How to Use

Do not swallow the capsules. This medication is ONLY for administration by inhaling the dry powder from the capsules using a compatible inhaler device.

  1. Prepare the Inhaler: Use the compatible inhaler device recommended by your doctor. Follow the device instructions to open it and prepare it to load a capsule.

  2. Load the Capsule: Just before use, remove one Glycogate FB capsule from the blister pack. Place it in the correct chamber of the inhaler and puncture it as directed by the device instructions.

  3. Inhale: Hold the inhaler level. Breathe out completely, being careful not to do so into the mouthpiece. Put your mouth tightly around the mouthpiece and inhale quickly and deeply.

  4. Hold Your Breath: Remove the inhaler from your mouth and hold your breath for about 10 seconds, or for as long as you comfortably can, to allow the medicine to settle in your lungs.

  5. Check and Clean: Open the inhaler to ensure the powder is empty. If any remains, repeat the inhalation process from step 3. Once complete, discard the empty capsule shell and wipe the mouthpiece clean with a dry cloth. Do not use water.

  6. Rinse and Spit: After each use, rinse your mouth thoroughly with water and spit it out. This is essential to help prevent oral thrush and throat irritation.
